Who is Octavia Spencer?

Octavia Lenora Spencer is an actress, author, and producer from the United States. She has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. She is one of just two black women to have three Oscar nominations, and she is the first black actress to receive two in a row. Spencer made her cinematic debut in the drama A Time to Kill, released in 1996. Her breakthrough came in 2011 when she played a maid in 1960s America in The Help, for which she received multiple honours, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She won the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ryan Coogler’s documentary Fruitvale Station (2013).
