Bill Parcells is an American football coach best-known as NFL head coach for 19 seasons. His fame grew as the head coach of the New York Giants, where he won two Super Bowl titles from 1983 to 1990. Similarly, He served as the head coach of various teams and became the only NFL coach to lead three different franchises to a conference championship game and four to the playoffs.

On August 22, 1941, Bill was born “Duana Charles Bill Parcells” to his mother, Ida Parcells and her husband, Charles Parcells, in Eaglewood, New Jersey. The NFL coach’s mother was a housewife, while his father was a quarterback at Georgetown University. Afterwards, Bill’s father worked for the FBI and became a lawyer for Uniroyal Tires. He grew up nearby in Hasbrouck Heights.

Coming to his academics, The NFL coach was an athletic kid since high school, who attended the River Dell Regional High School after moving to Oradell. During his youth, he participated in games such as football, baseball and basketball on his school’s team.

After completing high school, Bill was offered a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, which he rejected after his father’s disapproval and later enrolled at the Wichita State University. During his college years, Bill continued his practice as a linebacker.

The NFL coach later graduated with a physical education degree. He was given the nickname “Big Tuna” from his actual misspelt nickname “Tuner”.

Moreover, he became the defensive coordinator for New York Giants in 1979 but left the job to work in a land development company. After a year in Colorado, which he deemed the worst year of his life, The American NFL coach returned as the linebackers coach for New England Patriots in 1980.

Parcells accepted the offer to join the Giants as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in 1981. After a year, in 1982, as the former head coach Perkins announced his departure, Bill succeeded as the head coach of the Giants and led the team to their first Super Bowl XXI in 1986.

 Similarly, in 1990, led by head coach Bill Parcells, the Giants won their second Super Bowl. After his second Super Bowl victory, Bill retired from coaching and started working as a sports analyst for NBC Sports till 1992 and returned to NFL for the New England Patriots in 1993. Nevertheless, the American football coach left the team after a disagreement with the team owner and became the coach for the New York Jets.

Parcells raised the team’s record to 9-7 in his first season and won the playoffs in 1994. After that, he assisted as the head coach at Dallas Cowboys in 2003, becoming the first coach to lead four different teams to playoffs in NFL history.

The legendary NFL coach announced his retirement in 2007 and joined ESPN as a studio analyst.
