The American racer grew up in a family and community steeped in moonshine running and intense stock car racing. The former racer was familiar with race cars at an early age.
Bill won his first racing victory at the Winston Cup Series at Rockingham in 1976 on his father Erving George Elliott Jr’s car. The racer then qualified by 34th number on his Ford Torino and lasted 32 laps before a technical problem with the oil pump.
